英國每日郵報網站(MailOnline)報導,聽力學家警告,若戴耳機聽音樂的音量過大,可能導致聽力永久受損,甚至有耳聾之虞。專家建議以正確的方法使用耳機,以免遺憾終生。
紐約大學朗格尼醫學中心臨床副教授夏皮洛(William Shapiro)指出,年輕人尤其是高風險群,平均每五個青少年就有一人因為長期暴露於噪音之中,而有輕重程度不一的聽力受損問題。
夏皮洛說,左、右內耳的耳蝸各有大約15,000個毛細胞,其作用是透過震動接收、偵測音波。這些微小的聽覺細胞非常脆弱,而且無法再生,所以一旦受損就會造成永久的缺陷。這也是一些人喪失聽力的常見原因。
他說:「許多人是因為用耳塞式耳機(ear buds)聽音樂時,音量過大,而暴露於過大的噪音。」他指出,耳塞式耳機置入耳內,愈是接近耳膜(鼓膜),聲壓就愈高,愈可能傷害聽力,「只是從3分貝(DB)提高到6分貝,聲音強度就會加倍」。
夏皮洛建議戴耳機時採取下列自我保護措施。一,使用耳塞式耳機時,音量宜開到最大音量的60%以內,而且每天不宜使用超過60分鐘。二,建議使用具有降噪(noise cancelling)功能的頭戴式耳機(headphones),因為戴上降噪耳機可降低外部噪音,使用者便能調低用耳機聽音樂所需的音量。
